 The 21st International Vacuum Congress, IVC-21, will be held this year in Malmӧ, Sweden between July 1-5.  The IVC is one of the world’s most well-known and recognised scientific meetings. This years Congress sees an exceptional lineup of outstanding scientists (see plenary and invited speakers for example)  speaking on the full array of cross-cutting topics:

1 Nanoscale Devices and ICN+T

2 Organic and Inorganic Thin Films and Coatings

3 Surface Science

4 Technology

5 Semiconductor Materials and Devices

6 Materials and Devices for Life Sciences

7 Large Scale Facilities  

And the following Super areas

8 Grand Challenges in energy generation and storage

10 Grand Challenges in advanced processing


The large scale facilities topics include the following major themes:

  • Synchrotron Facilities and Science

  • Free Electron Laser Facilities and Science


Abstract submission appears to be still open. If you have considered attending this congress please do as it represents some of the best and most recent work being done in vacuum science and technology world-wide.


The closest international airport to Malmӧ is the Copenhagen International Airport (Kastrup - CPH). One may take a train directly which runs frequently  from Terminal 3  taking around 20 minutes for the entire trip. Flying to Copenhagen from all capital cities in Australia is possible with only one or two stops and all around the low AUD $2000 mark.
